«Spintronics: Fundamentals and Applications«

Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the physical foundations of spintronics and discuss its main technological applications. The course will also present selected emerging topics in the field, with an emphasis on materials and phenomena that are currently driving new research directions.

Course Structure

Lecture 1: Fundamentals of Spintronics

Motivation and brief historical development of the field. Spin currents and transport. Exchange interaction and magnetism. Spin-orbit coupling. Spin-to-charge conversion. Anomalous Hall effect and spin Hall effect.

Lecture 2: Applications of Spintronics

Basic architectures of spintronic devices. Operating principles of magnetic memories and spin-based logic devices. Examples of current technologies and development perspectives.

Lecture 3: Emerging Topics

Spintronics in two-dimensional materials. Topological systems. Altermagnets and new platforms for the control and manipulation of spin.
