«Skyrmions in magnetic spin systems»

Skyrmions are swirling magnetic textures whose unique topological properties grant them exceptional stability at the nanoscale, and make them leading candidates for future technological applications, particularly in memory devices. In this talk, I will introduce the concept of skyrmion in magnetic spin systems, detailing their fundamental characteristics, key theoretical models, and relevant experimental measurements. I will then review the primary technological proposals involving skyrmions, discussing their competitive advantages as well as the possible issues that may arise for their implementation. Building on this, I will introduce other non-trivial topological textures, such as antiferromagnetic skyrmions and merons. Finally, I will conclude with an overview of our recent contributions to the field and discuss current research directions and future projects.
